It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Pro-Troll’s founder and principal owner Dick Pool
Dick’s thirst for knowledge of what makes salmon strike and how best to attract them was legendary. He worked for years filming the behavior of wild ocean salmon as they attack bait and lures and turned this knowledge into a highly successful enterprise, inventing and patenting numerous products.
He was passionate for his work in fisheries conservation and worked with numerous state and federal leaders and
organizations to protect fishing access and ensure the fish had the necessary water and environment to thrive.
In 2009, Dick was honored by the American Sportfishing Association with a Lifetime Achievement Award and is among
just 34 legends in the ASA Hall of Fame. He also received The International Gamefish Association’s 2009
International Fisheries Conservation Award. He was one of only two individuals in the world to receive that honor.
In 2019 Dick was inducted into the California Outdoor Hall of Fame for his extraordinary lifelong contributions.
In 2025 Dick was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Golden State Salmon Association.
We will miss you Dick, and continue to work to make you proud.
Dick was a pioneer in the fishing and marine industry, an innovator of technology driven fishing tackle, a California salmon expert, and a leader in fisheries conservation.
